On December 22, 2014, Timothy Rundquist, 52, an assistant county attorney for Stevens County, Fergus Falls City Council member, and Minnesota State University-Moorhead instructor, died after a high speed chase from police in Otter Tail County.

Rundquist died at the end of a chase that began when he fled a highway patrolman that attempted to pull him over for going 66 in a 55.

The inexplicable decision by a law abiding citizen to suddenly flee police for a very minor traffic infraction closely resembles the bizarre chase of David Elliot in Grand Forks, that ended in a UND police officer shooting Elliot in the Altru parking.

SIMILARITIES

1. Fleeing subject committed only minor traffic offense
2. Fleeing subject had no meaningful criminal history
3. Fleeing subject hit spike strips and continued to desperately flee
4. No drugs or alcohol believed to be involved in either case
5. Authorities cannot provide an explanation for why either man fled
6. Both Rundquist and Elliot collided with a law enforcement vehicle
7. Rundquist’s death was deemed a suicide; Elliot was deemed “suicidal” by the police at a press conference, but lived through the gun-shots he received
